Benriach Smoky 10 Years Speyside Single Malt [700ML]

Benriach Distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in the Speyside area of Scotland. John Duff established Benriach Distillery in 1898, in North Speyside, south of Elgin, close to the Longmorn Distillery which is also owned by John Duff. Longmorn Distillery was built in 1893 and having achieved success with Longmorn, Duff decided to built Benriach Distillery next door.

Duff’s timing could not have been worse as the downturn of the domestic market and the whisky slump of the 1900s saw a huge number of distilleries being closed down. Benriach was shut down only 2 years after operating and would stay in silence for the next 65 years. During these long years, Benriach Distillery’s malting facilities were used to produce malts for Longmorn’s requirements. The rise of whisky in the 1960s, saw Benriach Distillery run for 5 years from 1960 to 1965 when it was opened by Glenlivet Distillers Ltd.

Seagram took over the Benriach Distillery in 1978 and eventually Seagram became part of Pernod Richard in 2001. Benriach Distillery operated for only 3 months every year under Pernod Richard. It was acquired by Billy Walker, a former blender and 2 South African Entrepreneurs, Geoff Bell and Wayne Keiswetter in 2013 under a new company named BenRiach Distillery Company Ltd. Under the new rule of Billy Walker, Benriach has rapidly become a strong performer on the global market. It is currently owned by Brown-Forman Corporation after acquiring the Distillery in 2016. Brown-Forman is one of the largest US wine and spirits producer and owns well-known brands such as Jack Daniel’s.

Benriach 10 Years Smoky is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that is known for the key characteristics of fruitiness with notes of aromatic pears and peaches. This Speyside Scotch whisky is crafted from a combination of unpeated and peated spirit and three cask in a combination of bourbon barrels, Jamaican rum casks and toasted virgin oak. Bottled at 46% ABV.

Smoked applewood, honey maple and spiced pear finishing with lingering fruit and smoked oak.

Rich long finish with notes of sweet fruitiness and smokiness.
