Description 

Benromach is a Speyside distillery founded by Duncan McCallum and F.W. Brickman in 1898 and is currently owned and operated by Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin based Scotch whisky specialist. Gordon & MacPhail is a family-owned business by the Urquhart family and is renowned for maturing and bottling some of the world’s rarest single malt whisky. John Urquhart began laying down casks of single malt at different distilleries in 1915 when everyone at the time was blending their whisky. The distillery is located near Forres in Morayshire, Scotland. Duncan had previously been working at the Glen Nevis Distillery in Campbeltown and Brickman was a spirit broker in Leith, Edinburgh.

The Urquhart family bought Benromach Distillery in 1993 and after five years of meticulous refittings of the distillery, it was officially reopened in 1998 by HRH Prince Charles. Today, the fourth generation of the Urquhart family runs the business and this includes Benromach’s second distillery near Grantown-on-Spey, which will commence distillation once built.

The Scottish barley used by Benromach Distillery is grown locally and malted with a little peat smoke for a distinctive Speyside character. Soft pure water is sourced from Chapelton Spring in Romach Hills, just a couple of miles behind the distillery. Unlike most other distilleries, Benromach uses two types of yeast for the fermentation process, Brewer’s and Distiller’s yeast, which give a more complete fermentation and development of complex flavours. Only First-Fill Ex-Bourbon and Ex-Sherry casks are used in Benromach Distillery for the maturation process. The entire process is handmade by a handful of distillers and relying entirely on their expertise.

Benromach 10 Years is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that won gold in the “Best Speyside Single Malt 12 Years and under” category at the World Whisky Awards 2014. Bottled at 43% ABV.
