Description

Looking for a Speyside single malt that bridges the gap between Highland elegance and Islay’s smoky intensity?

The Balvenie 19 Year Old The Week Of Peat represents a fascinating chapter in Speyside whisky-making, born from former distillery manager Ian Millar’s vision to revive the lightly peated styles of the 1930s-1940s. Since 2002, this limited annual expression has been crafted using locally grown barley that’s peated for just one week each year, creating a distinctly different profile from heavily peated options like Big Peat Islay Blended Malt while offering more complexity than Balvenie’s Caribbean Cask expression.

Distillery: Balvenie – Founded 1892, renowned for traditional craftsmanship
Region: Speyside – Known for elegant, refined single malts
ABV: 48.3% – Higher proof intensifies the delicate peat-fruit balance
Volume: 700ml
Maturation: 19 years in traditional oak casks
Tasting Notes: Soft sweet peat smoke opens with floral cream and caramel honey on the nose. The palate delivers smooth citrus balanced with vanilla nectar, rich earthy smoke, and cinnamon-ginger spice. Finishes with delicate smoke and lingering spicy sweetness.
Best Served: Neat in a Glencairn glass at room temperature, or with a splash of water

Our team at Mr. Chow’s Liquor Store has found this expression remarkably approachable for peat newcomers, offering bourbon-like smoothness with just a hint of smoke rather than Islay’s aggressive peat assault. The golden oily texture and medium-long finish make it exceptionally easy-sipping.

Ideal for: Whisky collectors seeking rare annual releases, corporate gifts, or special celebrations. Pairs with: Rich Malaysian dishes like beef rendang or char siu, where the smoke complements spiced meats beautifully. Recommended for: Serious collectors who appreciate aged Highland expressions but want something uniquely different.
