Description
Ardmore Distillery is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the village of Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire. The distillery is now owned and operated by Beam Suntory, an American subsidiary of Suntory Holdings of Osaka, Japan. William Teacher’s son, Adam built the distillery in 1898 to secure fillings for their blend, Teacher’s Highland Cream. Ardmore remains the principal component in the Teacher’s Highland Cream till today.
The distillery was built initially with only 2 stills and later 2 more stills were added in 1955 and 4 more stills in 1974, for a total of 8 stills in the distillery. The distillery also had its own maltings until the mid-1970s and its own cooperage until the late 1980s. The Distillery also uses coal to fire the stills until early 2001.
Ardmore Traditional Cask was the distillery’s first single malt and bottled at 46% ABV in a bottle embossed with an image of a golden eagle. Barrier filtering was used instead of chill filtering, unlike many other single malts. Ardmore Legacy superseded Ardmore Traditional Cask in 2014 with the standard ABV of 40% and chill filtration was used instead of barrier filtering. Ardmore Traditional Cask was re-launched in early 2015 as Ardmore Tradition at 46% ABV and barrier filtered. Ardmore Legacy is made with 80% peated and 20% unpeated malt.
Ardmore Legacy is a lightly peated single malt Scotch whisky that has been double matured in American Oak Ex-Bourbon barrels and smaller Quarter Cask size. Bottled at the standard 40% ABV.
