Day 7: Seven Swans A-Swimming – The Smooth Operators
Seven Swans A-Swimming – The Smooth Operators: Grace, Elegance, Effortless Smoothness
On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… seven swans a-swimming (six geese a-laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree).
Picture this: Seven elegant swans gliding across a lake. Graceful. Effortless. Smooth as silk. No splashing, no struggle, just pure elegance in motion. That’s exactly what we’re talking about today – whiskies that go down so smoothly, you forget you’re drinking 40% alcohol!
Welcome to Day 7 of Mr Chow’s 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway, where we’re celebrating the smooth operators of the whisky world. These are the bottles that make whisky approachable, friendly, and dare I say it… easy! 🦢
Join us as we explore the essence of the Seven Swans A-Swimming – The Smooth Operators in the whisky world.
Now, I know what some whisky snobs are thinking: “Smooth whisky? That’s for beginners lah!”
Wrong! Dead wrong!
Here’s the truth: Creating a genuinely smooth whisky requires MORE skill than making something harsh and challenging. Like those swans that look effortless but paddle furiously underwater, smooth whiskies take massive craftsmanship to produce!
Think of it this way: Anyone can make spicy laksa that burns your mouth. But making laksa that’s flavorful, complex, AND comfortable to eat? That takes a master chef! Same concept with whisky. 🍜
Today we’re exploring:
- Seven spectacularly smooth whiskies (verified smooth!)
- What makes whisky smooth (the science + craft)
- How to serve smooth whiskies in Malaysian heat
- Why ice is TOTALLY OKAY (fight me, purists!)
- The whisky highball revolution
- Beginner-friendly serving tips
Ready to glide through the smoothest drams in the whisky world? Let’s swim! 🦢
Understanding “Smooth” – What Does It Actually Mean?
Before we dive into the seven swans, let’s talk about what “smooth” actually means. Because everyone has their own definition!
What Smooth ISN’T:
❌ Boring or flavorless ❌ Watered down ❌ Low quality ❌ “Beginner whisky” (dismissive term) ❌ Lacking character
What Smooth IS:
✅ No harsh burn on the palate ✅ Easy finish without throat fire ✅ Balanced flavors – nothing dominates aggressively
✅ Approachable for all experience levels ✅ Comfortable alcohol warmth instead of burning ✅ Silky mouthfeel – glides across the tongue ✅ Pleasant lingering instead of aggressive aftertaste
Think of it like driving lah:
- Peaty Islay whisky = Ferrari (thrilling but intense!)
- Smooth whisky = Mercedes S-Class (effortless luxury!)
- Both are premium, just different experiences!
The Malaysian Context:
In our tropical climate, smooth whiskies make SO MUCH SENSE:
- Less aggressive heat = more refreshing
- Better with ice (ice doesn’t “ruin” already-gentle flavors)
- Perfect for whisky highballs (whisky + soda water)
- More approachable for entertaining guests
- Easier to enjoy when it’s 33°C outside
You know how sometimes you want spicy tom yam, but other times you want comforting chicken soup? Same energy with whisky! Sometimes you want that Islay peat punch, but other times you want smooth sailing! 🍵
The Seven Smooth Swans: Effortless Excellence
Now let’s meet our seven graceful operators! These bottles glide across your palate like swans across water – beautiful, elegant, and remarkably smooth. Experience the charm of Seven Swans A-Swimming – The Smooth Operators.
Swan #1: Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve
The Buttery Smooth Classic
Shop Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve – RM220
The Glenlivet didn’t become Scotland’s original licensed distillery (1824!) without knowing how to make approachable whisky. Founder’s Reserve is their entry-level expression, and it’s smooth like butter melting on warm toast.
Why It’s Smooth:
- Matured primarily in first-fill American oak (adds creamy vanilla)
- Light, fruity Speyside character (no aggressive peat)
- Standard 40% ABV (gentle alcohol warmth)
- Selectively batched for consistency
Tasting Profile:
- Nose: Citrus zest, pear, light vanilla
- Palate: Creamy vanilla, apple, gentle sweetness
- Finish: Short, clean, no burn whatsoever
Perfect For:
- Whisky newbies taking first steps
- Hot Malaysian afternoons (excellent with ice!)
- Entertaining guests who “don’t usually drink whisky”
- Whisky highball base (add soda water + lemon)
Malaysian Pairing: Butter cookies, pineapple tarts, light desserts. This whisky doesn’t compete with food – it complements!
Why Malaysians Love It: Light enough for our climate, affordable enough for regular drinking, smooth enough that your whisky-skeptic friends will actually finish their glass!
Swan #2: Dalwhinnie 15 Years
The Honey-Sweet Highland Swan
Shop Dalwhinnie 15 Years – RM230
Dalwhinnie sits at one of Scotland’s highest elevations, and something about that cold, pure mountain air creates whisky that’s smooth like honey dripping from a spoon. This is elegance in a glass!
Why It’s Smooth:
- 15 years of maturation = well-rounded character
- Highland style (balanced, not extreme in any direction)
- Honeyed sweetness softens everything
- Gentle, warming finish instead of burning
Tasting Profile:
- Nose: Heather honey, aromatic smoke (very gentle!), vanilla
- Palate: Honey sweetness, malted barley, soft fruits
- Finish: Long but gentle, warming honey lingers
Perfect For:
- Step-up from entry-level (ready for more complexity)
- Cold nights (rare in Malaysia, but still!)
- Gifting to bosses/important clients
- Sipping neat (smooth enough, no ice needed)
Malaysian Pairing: Salted egg yolk desserts, honey-glazed char siew, caramelized treats. The honey notes in the whisky echo beautifully!
Pro Tip: This is the whisky that converts “I only drink beer” people to whisky lovers. Gentle enough to be non-threatening, complex enough to be interesting!
Swan #3: Auchentoshan Three Wood
The Triple-Distilled Silk Specialist
Shop Auchentoshan Three Wood – RM230
Auchentoshan is Scotland’s only triple-distilled single malt. Most scotch is distilled twice. Auchentoshan does it THREE times, and the result? Smooth as silk pajamas! This is Lowland elegance at its finest.
Why It’s Smooth:
- Triple distillation = removes more impurities = smoother spirit
- Three different cask types (bourbon, Oloroso sherry, Pedro Ximénez sherry)
- Lowland style (gentle, refined, elegant)
- Sweet sherry influence balances everything
Tasting Profile:
- Nose: Rich dried fruits, toffee, brown sugar
- Palate: Sherry sweetness, chocolate, dark fruits, incredibly smooth texture
- Finish: Sweet, lingering, warming but gentle
Perfect For:
- Dessert whisky (after big meals)
- Impressing whisky-knowledgeable friends
- Solo contemplative sipping
- Special occasions that deserve something unique
Malaysian Pairing: Dark chocolate, Christmas pudding, rich fruit cake. The sherry sweetness matches beautifully with dense, sweet desserts!
The Triple Distillation Difference: Think of it like this:
- Twice distilled = Clear water from tap (good!)
- Triple distilled = Filtered, purified water (smoother!)
That extra distillation removes roughness while keeping flavor. Science + craft = smooth swan! 🦢
Swan #4: Glenfiddich 12 Years
The Gateway Swan (World’s Best-Selling Single Malt!)
Shop Glenfiddich 12 Years – RM210
There’s a reason Glenfiddich 12 is the world’s most awarded single malt. It’s smooth enough for beginners, interesting enough for experts, and priced perfectly for everyone. This is the swan that introduced MILLIONS to whisky!
Why It’s Smooth:
- 12 years maturation = balanced, not aggressive
- Speyside character (fruity, approachable)
- Bourbon + sherry cask combo = sweet + smooth
- Designed for mass appeal (in the best way!)
Tasting Profile:
- Nose: Pear, butterscotch, light oak
- Palate: Honey, vanilla, orchard fruits, gentle oak
- Finish: Medium length, smooth, slightly sweet
Perfect For:
- Your first “serious” whisky purchase
- Daily drinking (affordable enough!)
- Introducing friends to single malts
- Base for whisky cocktails (if you must!)
Malaysian Pairing: Everything! Seriously, this whisky is so versatile. Kuih, Western desserts, even with a plate of char kuey teow if you’re feeling adventurous!
Why It’s The GOAT Entry-Level: Glenfiddich 12 doesn’t try to challenge you. It welcomes you with open arms and says, “Hey, whisky can be friendly!” That’s smooth operator energy!
Real Talk: Whisky snobs dismiss this as “too common” or “boring.” Ignore them! Millions of people love this whisky for good reason. It’s smooth, reliable, and gets the job done beautifully!
Swan #5: Glenmorangie Original 10 Years
The Vanilla Velvet Dream
Shop Glenmorangie Original – RM175
Glenmorangie (pronounced glen-MOR-an-jee, not glen-mo-RANGE!) creates some of Scotland’s lightest, most delicate whiskies. Original 10 is their flagship, and it’s smooth like vanilla ice cream melting on your tongue!
Why It’s Smooth:
- Tallest stills in Scotland = lighter, more refined spirit
- Matured exclusively in bourbon barrels (maximum vanilla!)
- Highland but on the lighter side
- Only 10 years but perfectly balanced
Tasting Profile:
- Nose: Vanilla, citrus, light florals
- Palate: Creamy vanilla, toffee, honey, light fruit
- Finish: Clean, gentle, slightly sweet
Perfect For:
- Afternoon sipping (light enough!)
- Whisky + coconut water experiment (trust me!)
- Vanilla lovers (this is YOUR whisky)
- Step up from Glenfiddich 12
Malaysian Pairing: Vanilla ice cream (meta but amazing!), coconut desserts, pandan cake. The vanilla notes complement Southeast Asian flavors beautifully!
The Glenmorangie Difference: Their stills are 5 meters tall (tallest in Scotland!). Taller stills = lighter spirit = smoother whisky. It’s science, but it tastes like magic! ✨
Swan #6: Tomatin Legacy
The Underrated Smooth Gem
Shop Tomatin Legacy – RM165
Tomatin doesn’t get enough love, and that’s Malaysia’s gain! This Highland distillery produces some seriously smooth whisky at prices that make you do a double-take. Legacy is their no-age-statement expression, and it punches WAY above its price point!
Why It’s Smooth:
- Blend of bourbon and virgin oak casks = sweet + gentle
- Highland distillery with gentle house style
- No age statement allows blending for smoothness
- Ridiculously good value (smooth whisky at entry price!)
Tasting Profile:
- Nose: Light fruit, vanilla, hint of spice
- Palate: Smooth as anything, vanilla, apple, gentle oak
- Finish: Short, sweet, no burn
Perfect For:
- Budget-conscious smooth whisky hunters
- Daily drinker (you won’t cry if you spill some!)
- Introducing whisky to skeptical friends
- Your “secret weapon” affordable smooth dram
Malaysian Pairing: Anything and everything! At this price point, experiment freely. Curry puffs? Why not! Satay? Go for it!
The Tomatin Secret: Everyone sleeps on Tomatin because they don’t have the marketing budget of Glenfiddich or Macallan. But their juice is LEGIT smooth and SERIOUSLY affordable. This is the swan swimming under the radar! 🦢
Swan #7: Irish Whiskey (Jameson / Bushmills / Tullamore D.E.W.)
The Naturally Smooth Triple-Distilled Trinity
Shop Jameson – RM130 Shop Bushmills Original – RM130 Shop Tullamore D.E.W. – RM115
Here’s a secret: Irish whiskey is LEGALLY required to be smooth! Okay, not legally, but culturally. Irish whiskey tradition emphasizes smoothness above all else, and they’ve mastered it over centuries.
Why Irish Whiskey Is Smooth:
- Triple distilled (standard in Ireland) = maximum smoothness
- Unpeated barley = no smoke aggression
- Often uses mix of malted + unmalted barley = softer character
- Matured in gentle bourbon barrels
- Tradition of approachability
Jameson – The People’s Champion:
- Most popular Irish whiskey worldwide
- Smooth, sweet, vanilla-forward
- Perfect mixer (whisky highball king!)
- Budget-friendly smooth excellence
Bushmills – The Traditional Swan:
- Oldest licensed distillery in the world (1608!)
- Light, fruity, incredibly smooth
- Slightly more refined than Jameson
- Northern Ireland pride!
Tullamore D.E.W. – The Triple Blend Swan:
- Uniquely uses pot still + malt + grain whiskey
- Extra smooth from triple distillation
- Rich, full-bodied but gentle
- Best value in Irish whiskey!
Perfect For:
- Absolute whisky beginners (start here!)
- Whisky highballs (whisky + soda = perfection)
- Mixing cocktails (Irish coffee, anyone?)
- Budget smooth drinking
Malaysian Pairing: Irish whiskey’s smoothness makes it incredibly versatile. Coffee (Irish coffee!), chocolate, Western desserts, even with satay if you’re adventurous!
The Irish Advantage: While Scots argue about peat and region, Irish whiskey just focuses on being SMOOTH. No drama, no complexity competitions – just effortlessly drinkable whisky. That’s swan energy! 🦢
Pro Tip: Many Malaysians try Irish whiskey first, get disappointed with Scotch’s harshness, and never try whisky again. Don’t do that! Start with Irish or smooth Scots, THEN explore peated/complex expressions. Build up your palate!
The Science & Craft of Smooth Whisky
So what ACTUALLY makes whisky smooth? Let’s get nerdy for a moment (but fun nerdy, not boring nerdy):
Factor 1: Distillation Process

Double vs. Triple Distillation:
Double Distilled (Most Scotch):
- First distillation: Separates alcohol from mash
- Second distillation: Refines and purifies
- Result: More character, more “bite,” more complexity
Triple Distilled (Irish, Auchentoshan):
- Third distillation: Further purifies, removes more congeners
- Result: Smoother, lighter, more refined
- Sacrifice: Some complexity, but gain elegance
Think of it like this:
- Double distilled = Rough draft → Final draft (still has character quirks)
- Triple distilled = Rough draft → Final draft → Editor’s polish (super smooth)
Still Height Matters: Taller stills (like Glenmorangie) = lighter, smoother spirit
- More reflux (liquid falling back down)
- More copper contact (removes sulfur compounds)
- Result: Delicate, refined character
Factor 2: Cask Selection
Bourbon Barrels = Smooth Sweetness:
- American oak (Quercus alba)
- Previously held bourbon (sweet, vanilla-rich)
- Adds: Vanilla, caramel, toffee, sweetness
- Softens: Harsh edges, aggressive notes
- Result: Gentle, approachable whisky
Why Bourbon Barrels = Smooth: Bourbon regulations require NEW oak barrels. After bourbon makers use them once, they sell them to Scotch/Irish whiskey makers. These “seasoned” barrels are gentler – the aggressive oak tannins are already extracted by bourbon!
Virgin Oak = More Intense: New oak = more aggressive tannins = less smooth (That’s why smooth whiskies avoid virgin oak!)
Factor 3: Age Statement
The Aging Sweet Spot for Smoothness:
8-10 Years:
- Young enough to be vibrant
- Old enough to be smooth
- Sweet spot for approachability
12-15 Years:
- Maximum smoothness achieved
- All harsh edges mellowed
- Rich but not over-oaked
18+ Years:
- Very smooth, but sometimes TOO much oak
- Can become dry, tannic
- Smooth but less approachable for beginners
The Goldilocks Zone: 10-15 years = smoothest whisky range. Not too young (harsh), not too old (over-oaked), just right! 🐻
Factor 4: Alcohol Content (ABV)
The Burn Factor:
40% ABV (Standard):
- Legal minimum for whisky
- Comfortable warmth
- Maximum smoothness
- Perfect for neat sipping
43-46% ABV (Cask Strength Light):
- Slight increase in intensity
- Still approachable
- More flavor delivery
50%+ ABV (Cask Strength):
- Alcohol burn dominates
- Not “smooth” by any definition
- For experienced palates only
Why 40% = Smoothest: Lower alcohol = less burning sensation = smoother perception. Science!
Malaysian Context: In our hot climate, 40% ABV whisky feels even gentler. The warmth is pleasant, not aggressive!
Factor 5: Peat Level
Peat Phenols = Opposite of Smooth:
Unpeated (0-5 ppm):
- Smooth, gentle, approachable
- Our seven swans live here!
Lightly Peated (5-15 ppm):
- Slight smokiness
- Still approachable
- Adds character without harshness
Heavily Peated (30-50+ ppm):
- Campfire smoke dominates
- Aggressive, challenging
- NOT smooth (but amazing in its own way!)
The Smooth Strategy: All our seven swans are unpeated or barely peated. Smoothness and heavy peat don’t mix!
How to Serve Smooth Whiskies (Malaysian Edition!)
Now let’s talk about the REAL question: How should you drink smooth whisky in Malaysia’s tropical climate?
Method 1: Neat (Traditional)
How: Pour 30-50ml in a glass. Sip. That’s it!
Pros:
- Maximum flavor
- Experience whisky as distiller intended
- No dilution
Cons:
- Can feel too warm in Malaysian heat
- Alcohol burn (even in smooth whiskies) can be off-putting
- Less refreshing
Best For:
- Air-conditioned environments
- Evening sipping
- Contemplative drinking
- Experienced whisky drinkers
Malaysian Reality: Drinking neat whisky at 33°C outside feels like adding fire to fire. It’s okay to want cooling!
Method 2: With Ice (TOTALLY ACCEPTABLE!)
How: 1-3 ice cubes in your whisky
Pros:
- Cooling effect (perfect for our climate!)
- Slight dilution opens up flavors
- More refreshing
- Social drinking friendly
Cons:
- Purists will judge you (ignore them!)
- Over-dilution if ice melts too fast
- Some flavor loss
Best For:
- Hot Malaysian days (so… every day?)
- Entertaining guests
- Making whisky more approachable
- Outdoor drinking
The Great Ice Debate:
Purists Say: “Ice ruins whisky! Dilutes it! Kills flavor!”
Reality: Ice makes whisky MORE enjoyable in tropical climates. And guess what? If you enjoy it, that’s what matters!
Malaysian Ice Strategy:
- Use large ice cubes (melt slower)
- Or whisky stones (cool without dilution)
- Or one big sphere ice ball (looks fancy, melts slow!)
- Don’t use crushed ice (melts too fast)
Real Talk: Scottish whisky was created in SCOTLAND (cold, rainy, miserable). Of course they drink it neat – they need the warmth! We live in the tropics. Ice is not just acceptable, it’s SMART! 🧊
Method 3: Whisky Highball (Japanese Innovation, Malaysian Perfect!)

How:
- Fill tall glass with ice
- Pour 45ml whisky
- Top with 120-150ml soda water (4:1 ratio)
- Gentle stir
- Garnish with lemon peel (optional)
Pros:
- SUPER refreshing (perfect for Malaysian heat!)
- Carbonation adds dimension
- Lower alcohol per serve = more drinkable
- Incredibly food-friendly
- Makes whisky last longer
Cons:
- Not “serious” whisky drinking (who cares!)
- Need to buy soda water
- Some flavor loss from dilution
Best For:
- Lunch/afternoon drinking
- Pairing with meals
- Hot outdoor events
- Making whisky last at parties
- Converting non-whisky drinkers
Why Highballs Work in Malaysia:
Japanese popularized highballs because their climate is similar to ours – hot, humid summers. They realized diluted, carbonated whisky is MORE enjoyable than neat whisky in heat!
Best Whiskies for Highballs: From our seven swans:
- Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve (light, refreshing)
- Glenmorangie Original (vanilla shines through)
- Jameson (literally made for this!)
- Glenfiddich 12 (reliable, always good)
Highball Hack: Add a tiny pinch of salt to your highball. Sounds weird, but it enhances flavors without tasting salty! (Trust me, try it!)
Method 4: Two Drops of Water (The Whisky Geek Method)
How:
- Pour whisky neat
- Add exactly 2-3 drops of water
- Swirl gently
- Wait 30 seconds
- Sip
Pros:
- Opens up aromatics
- Reduces alcohol burn slightly
- Releases hidden flavors
- Looks sophisticated
Cons:
- Requires good water (filtered, room temp)
- Slight dilution
- Extra step (who has time?)
Best For:
- Expensive bottles (maximize flavor)
- Tasting events
- Showing off whisky knowledge
- When you want maximum flavor with less burn
The Science: Water breaks up alcohol molecules, releasing trapped aromatic compounds. It’s like unlocking flavors!
Malaysian Tip: Use filtered room-temperature water. Cold water shocks the whisky. Tap water (if chlorinated) adds weird flavors!
Method 5: Whisky + Coconut Water (Malaysian Innovation!)
How:
- 45ml smooth whisky (Glenmorangie perfect!)
- 120ml coconut water
- Ice
- Lime wedge
Pros:
- Uniquely Malaysian/tropical
- Natural sweetness complements whisky
- Electrolytes + alcohol = less hangover?
- Incredibly refreshing
- Instagram-worthy
Cons:
- Purists will have heart attack
- Coconut flavor can dominate
- Not traditional (but who cares!)
Best For:
- Beach drinking
- Poolside vibes
- Malaysian pride cocktail
- Showing off to tourists
Real Talk: I know this sounds weird, but TRY IT. The natural sweetness of coconut water, the vanilla notes of smooth whisky, the lime acidity – it WORKS. This is what drinking in the tropics is about! 🥥
The Smooth vs. Complex Debate
Let’s address the elephant (or swan?) in the room: Some whisky “experts” dismiss smooth whiskies as boring or for beginners only.
This is elitist nonsense. Here’s why:
The False Hierarchy:
What Snobs Say: “Real whisky should challenge you! Smooth = boring! Peat or go home!”
Reality: Smooth whisky requires MORE skill to produce:
- Balance is harder than extremes
- Consistency demands precision
- Appeal to masses requires excellence
- Smooth ≠ Simple
The Cooking Analogy:
Extreme Flavors (Peated/Cask Strength): Like super spicy food – impressive, intense, memorable… but can you eat it every day?
Smooth Whiskies: Like perfectly balanced home cooking – comforting, reliable, endlessly enjoyable. You can eat it every day!
Both have their place. Neither is “better.”
When to Drink Smooth Whiskies:
✅ After long work day (comfort drinking) ✅ Hot Malaysian afternoon (refreshing!) ✅ With friends who don’t normally drink whisky ✅ As aperitif before meals ✅ When you want to RELAX, not analyze ✅ Every day drinking (affordable + enjoyable) ✅ Introducing someone to whisky
When to Drink Complex/Challenging Whiskies:
✅ Special occasions ✅ Tasting events ✅ When you want intellectual engagement ✅ Showing off whisky collection ✅ Cold weather (rare in Malaysia!) ✅ After acquired taste for intensity
The Truth:
Most people drink smooth whiskies 80% of the time, complex whiskies 20%. And that’s perfectly fine!
Malaysian Wisdom: We don’t eat cili padi every day, even though we love it. Sometimes you want comfort food! Same with whisky. Sometimes smooth is exactly what you need! 🌶️

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is it okay to drink smooth whisky with ice in Malaysia?
A: ABSOLUTELY! In our tropical climate, ice is not just acceptable – it’s smart! Ice makes whisky more refreshing without “ruining” it. Ignore purists who say otherwise. They don’t live in 33°C heat! Use large ice cubes that melt slower for best results.
Q: Are smooth whiskies “beginner whiskies” only?
A: No! This is elitist nonsense. Smooth whiskies require MORE skill to produce than harsh whiskies. Balance is harder than extremes. Many experienced whisky drinkers prefer smooth drams 80% of the time. Smooth doesn’t mean simple or boring!
Q: What’s the smoothest whisky for absolute beginners?
A: Start with Irish whiskey – Jameson, Bushmills, or Tullamore D.E.W. All triple-distilled, naturally smooth, and budget-friendly. Begin with ice or highball serves, then progress to neat drinking as your palate develops.
Q: How do I make a whisky highball?
A: Easy! Fill tall glass with ice, pour 45ml smooth whisky, top with 120-150ml soda water (4:1 ratio), gentle stir, optional lemon peel garnish. Perfect for Malaysian heat! Best with Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, Jameson, or Glenfiddich 12.
Q: Why is triple-distilled whisky smoother?
A: Each distillation removes impurities (congeners) that cause harshness. Most Scotch is distilled twice, Irish whiskey three times. That third distillation creates extra smoothness by removing more rough compounds while keeping flavor. Science + tradition = smooth!
Q: Can smooth whisky be complex too?
A: YES! Dalwhinnie 15 and Auchentoshan Three Wood prove this. They’re incredibly smooth but full of complex flavors. Smoothness and complexity aren’t opposites – the best whiskies have both!
Q: What’s the best way to store smooth whisky in Malaysian climate?
A: Same as any whisky: upright, cool room (AC!), away from sunlight, with dehumidifier. Our humidity is whisky’s enemy. Keep bottles sealed tight and boxes intact. Check quarterly for evaporation or cork issues.
Q: Should I add water to smooth whisky?
A: Optional! Smooth whiskies are already gentle, so water isn’t necessary. But 2-3 drops can open up aromatics in more complex smooth whiskies like Dalwhinnie 15. Experiment and see what you prefer!
