The birth of Nordes Atlantic Galician Gin began with a group of friends enjoying the traditional Galician delicacy, a dish of octopus. A renowned sommelier and winner of the Nariz de Oro award 2004, a Galician winemaker and a master distiller wanted to create a spirit that is true to the Galician region, made using local ingredients and be truly different from the other gins.
Nordes Atlantic Gin differs from other gins due to the spirit being derived from grapes, local Galician Albarino grapes. The brand states that this local Galician Albarino grape is “the soul” of the gin. The brand also uses 6 other botanicals native to the region such as sage, laurel, verbena herb, eucalyptus and peppermint. Glasswort, a type of seaweed makes up the final Galician ingredient and is central to the flavours in the spirit. To complete the gin recipe, Nordes uses five botanicals from other parts of the world which are juniper, ginger, cardamom, hibiscus flower and black tea. A total of 11 individually macerated botanicals makes up Nordes Atlantic Gin.
The distinctive white and blue bottle with its unique design comes from the traditional porcelain products made by hand in Sargadelos, in Galicia. Placing focus on the provenance of the gin, a pixelated world map is on every bottle and Galicia is highlighted in red.
Nordes Atlantic Galician Gin is a gin made in Spain and launched in 2012. The brand takes its name from the Nordes wind which meets the Galician coasts and describes it as “the wind that brings good weather.” Bottled at the standard 40% ABV.
