Jameson Irish Whiskey is a blended Irish whisky distilled by the Irish Distillers Group, a subsidiary of Pernod Richard. Jameson Irish Whiskey is distilled at the New Middleton Distillery in County Cork. It is the best-selling Irish whisky in the world and sold over 8 million cases in 2019. It has been sold internationally since the early 19th century, and is available to buy in over 130 countries.
John Jameson was originally a lawyer from Alloa in Scotland before he founded the distillery in Dublin in the year 1780. He married Margaret Haig in 1768, who was the eldest daughter of John Haig, the famous distiller in Scotland. John Jameson and Margaret Haig had a family of 16 children, eight sons and eight daughters. John’s sons took over the business in 1805 and the family continued to run the distillery until it merged with Cork Distillers to form Irish Distillers Group in 1966. French drinks conglomerate Pernod Richard acquired Irish Distillers Group in 1988.
Jameson Irish Whiskey is a blended Irish whisky produced from a blend of grain whiskeys and single pot still whiskeys, a style of Irish whisky made by a single distillery from a mixture of malted and unmalted barley distilled in a pot still. Both of which are sourced from within a 50-mile radius around the distillery in Cork. Additionally, in contrast to traditional method used in some Scotch whisky distillery which fire the kiln with peat to dry the barley, Jameson uses closed kiln fired by natural gas. Bottled at the standard 40% ABV.
Tours and Tastings for visits are available at the old Jameson Distillery in Bow Street near Smithfield in Dublin.
