Description
Bowmore is Islay’s oldest distillery, receiving their legal distillery license in 1779. A Bowmore tradition that has been passed down from master distiller to master distiller is to use just three ingredients to make Bowmore single malt scotch whisky. The three ingredients are barley, yeast and water. The barley grown and malted on the island, yeast cultivated and water flowing from the River Laggan along with the unique character of Islay all come together to produce the Bowmore single malt scotch whisky. One of only a handful of distilleries that still does floor maltings of their barley.
Islay distilleries including Bowmore are known for their distinctive peaty whiskies but what exactly is peat. Peat is an organic fuel made from compressed layers of organic material such as grass, heather and moss, and formed over thousands of years. Commonly found in bogs across Islay and many other islands around Scotland.
A whisky to be savoured slowly, every delicious drop of this exquisitely balanced malt has been matured for a quarter of a century in North American bourbon and Spanish sherry casks. Exceptional even by Bowmore's standards, the highly acclaimed Bowmore 25 Year Old. Bottled at 43% ABV.
