Auld Goonsy is an old timer in the whisky industry with wealth of knowledge and experience in the field, having worked in the cooperage of bonded warehouses and also in many distilleries around Scotland.
With his passion for whisky, Auld Goonsy has called upon many of his old friends from the industry, from ex-distillery managers to whisky enthusiasts to reminiscence about their good old times working with all things whisky. Together with his bunch of old codgers, the group have collectively selected special casks of whisky that they think are exceptional to be bottled.
The main theme of the range is Single Cask bottlings only, where the panels of voters or ‘Auld Yins’ will select the casks and have it bottled. Additionally, most of the bottles will be bottled at Cask Strength with some being bottled at a reduced strength. Being a Single Cask bottling, very limited quantities are produced.
Bruichladdich Distillery is located on the Rhinns of the isle of Islay in Scotland. The distillery produces mainly Single malt Scotch whisky but has offered artisanal gins. Since 2012, the distillery is owned and operated by Remy Cointreau, a French family-owned business group whose origins date back to 1724. Famous brands for cognacs, Remy Martin and Louis XIII are produced by the French family.
Bruichladdich distillery was built by Harvey brothers in 1881, William who was 32 at the time, John who was 31, and Robert who was 23 years old. They chose the westernmost part of the island, on the shore of Loch Indaal, on the Rinns of Islay. The Harveys were a whisky family that had owned two distilleries in Glasgow since 1770. The three brothers combined their talent to build their third distillery, Bruichladdich Distillery.
Auld Goonsy’s Bruichladdich 15 Years Bourbon Barrel is an Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky with a limited release of 196 bottles only. The whisky is matured in bourbon barrels with Cask Number 722. Filled on 14th May 2006 and bottled at reduced cask strength of 50% ABV.
Auld Goonsy says:
Having been matured in Bourbon Barrels for 15 years, this Islay malt has an earthy spiciness and a good serving of a dreamy sweet treat. Pleasure in a glass.
