Description

Aberlour Distillery was founded by James Fleming in the year 1879, in Aberlour, Strathspey, Scotland. It is at a location with a sure supply of pure spring water from river Lour and Spey that flows over the pink granite of Ben Rinnes. James Fleming was a son of a local tenant farmer who worked in Dailuiane, a single malt distillery for ten years before launching his own Aberlour Distillery. Fleming was producing whisky from 1880 onwards until his death at the age of 65 in 1895 - his body then buried opposite the distillery in the village cemetery. Since 1975, Pernod Ricard has been the owner of this distillery.

Aberlour whisky comes in a variety of ages, including 10 years, 12 years, 15 years, 16 years, 18 years and a rare 30-year-old 1970 vintage malt, as well as A’bunadh, a no-aged cask strength release. Most of the variants are matured in American ex-bourbon oak casks which is a standard for many single malt whiskeys.

Aberlour 16 Years Double Cask is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that is matured for 16 years in a combination with American Oak casks and Sherry casks, hence the name double cask. This expression released by Aberlour has won Double Gold Medal in 2007, Silver medal in 2009 and again Double Gold Medal in 2011.
